At 53 years old I have seen a fair bit of life, Starting in
Shotton a steel working town. I married and moved to Greenfield as my
children arrived we moved to Bryn-y-baal and that's when my roving started.
First was Algeria for 2½
years. This allowed not only me but my whole family to travel. Motoring and
caravanning holidays in France etc. |
|
The next part of my life was a little more distance from my
family when a worked this time 4½ years in the Falklands Islands where
I started my interest in amateur radio and fell walking. Some unusual
hobbies started from this when I bought my wife a spinning wheel. I also
became heavily involved in the local farming making special lighting using
bus lights and batteries and wind chargers, multi-generators etc. |
|
Returning home was a slow process as directly from the
Falklands I went to Suffolk and lived there for 4 years living in the family
holiday caravan. here I got my UK radio licence and I was again very close
to the local community taking the family on a cycling holiday around Suffolk
and Norfolk. Ending up with two tandems. |
|
Again I did not return home but moved to Bristol again in
old family holiday caravan working on the new seven bridge. A new set of
radio friends and I was getting quite use to the travelling life. But at
least it did not take so long to get home. But Linda my wife injured her
back and was wheel chair bound so my wings were clipped and I returned home. |
| I still worked on construction but local at point of
Ayr. I then moved to GEC in Connah's Quay and by now my wife was improving.
I was given an advert for another Ex PAT job but dismissed it as not my
field but Linda by now wanting to get me from under feet sent off my CV and
then started another period abroad. |
| This time even further away from home in Hong Kong. The
contract did not last long but I earned a lot of money and Linda with the
prospect of going to Hong Kong found her back got better very quickly. It is
the only place I have been with my wife where she declared "I'm fed up of
shopping". But I am sure anyone who has spent time in Hong Kong would
understand. |
| Returning from Hong Kong was not the end of my travels but from
then on in the UK. I worked in Belfast for a few months living in Bangor. I
also worked in Edinburgh but I spent more time at home. I became active with
RAYNET the amateur radio emergency network. And saw my children leave home. I
did not completely abandon travelling though. |
| I got a job working on BT telephone exchanges this for the
second time allowed me to work with my son. We did Wales and West and moved
every week to a new location. I saw a lot of the country in this year but at
least home every weekend. I then settled down to some local jobs. Got to know
my family again. |
| But itching feet and I again returned to working away and went
to Heathrow on terminal 5. This was ended rather abruptly when my hand got
mauled in a machine on site and I returned home on the sick. So rather than
waist the time I went to college to learn about computers. Hence this web
page. |
